A portable appliance is generally described by NAPIT (the National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers) as being 'any electrical item which can be moved, or is intended to be moved whilst connected to an electrical supply.'

This includes such appliances as:

Computers, Monitors and Printers

Desktop lamps, Shredders, Kettles

Vending Machines, Portable Heaters, Refrigerators

This list is not exhaustive and if you are in any doubt as to what equipment is actually deemed a 'portable appliance' it is best to chat to one of our experienced engineers who would be happy to advise.

What does the testing involve?

Our engineers do their utmost to make the testing process as quick and efficient as possible - keeping the disruption to you and your staff to an absolute minimum. All of our engineers are trained to the highest level and all work will follow the IEE's Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing.

Every appliance will thoroughly examined for faults and defects - plugs will be opened to ensure everything is correctly anchored, that the fuze is correctly rated and checked for signs of overheating. The replacement of fuzes and minor repairs such as making good are carried out onsite and are FREE OF CHARGE.

Labelling

To ensure that every piece of equipment is tested at the appropriate time, each electrical appliance is documented by location and serial number or ID. It is then identified by a unique, permanent label logged by us on our computer database.

To give you complete peace of mind, all information, including test dates, is stored on your file in our database. You will receive printed copies but we will automatically advise you when a retest is due.

The retesting of failed appliances is also FREE OF CHARGE.
